8 Tips to protect your dog this Summer
It's getting hot and summer is in full swing, so we thought it might be helpful if we provided a few summer tips from the AVMA to keep your dog healthy:
Don't leave your dog in the car. It get's much hotter in the car than outside in a very short period of time!
Give your dog plenty of water.
Make sure you have a shady area for when your dog is outside.
Keep in mind that the concrete, asphalt, and cement can get too hot for your dog to walk on safely. Try to avoid these surfaces when walking your pet, if possible.
Try going for walks early when it is cooler outside and safer for their paws!
Make sure your pet has a way of cooling off because when you think it is hot outside, it is even hotter for them.
Since we are spending more time outdoors with our pets we recommended that you make sure your pet is protected from external parasites like fleas, ticks, and heartworms.
Check with your veterinarian to see if your pet may benefit from a summer cut if they have a long or thick coat, or if anything is recommended to protect their skin if they have a thin coat.
If you have any questions about the above tips, please call us at (916) 771-6930 and we would be happy to answer them!
