VACCINATIONS

Vaccinations are important to keep your pet healthy, as well as your human family.  At Blue Oaks Veterinary Clinic we offer a variety of vaccines and vaccine schedules that will be individually tailored to your pet's needs and life style.

DENTAL CARE

At Blue Oaks Veterinary Clinic, we are passionate about dental health and prevention of painful periodontal disease.  We have invested in state-of-the-art dental equipment, including digital dental radiographs, to keep your pet's mouth healthy.  While we can address and cure advanced dental disease and infections, our philosophy is to prevent these problems with routine anesthetic dental cleanings.

SURGERY

In addition to routine spaying and neutering, Blue Oaks Veterinary Clinic veterinarians perform a full range of routine and emergency surgeries on dog, cat, and exotic species.  In the event that a board certified surgeon is needed, we have a partnership with a local surgeon who will come and perform specialty surgeries in our clinic so your pet stays under the care of it's primary care veterinarian in an environment they are comfortable in.

ABOUT

OUR CLINIC

Dr. Thompson and Dr. Cabrera standig together outside of clinic.

Blue Oaks Veterinary Clinic was founded by Dr. Omar Cabrera and Dr. Aileen Thompson in 2017.  After working together at another local clinic for five years, Drs. Cabrera and Thompson merged their dreams of practice ownership to create Blue Oaks Veterinary Clinic.  Our goal is to treat you and your animals as our family, and to provide high quality medical care with state-of-the-art equipment to small animals, exotics, and avian species in Roseville and the greater Sacramento area.

Dr. Thompson, DVM

Dr. Aileen Thompson grew up locally in Folsom, CA.  She graduated from St. Francis High School in Sacramento and went on to pursue her undergraduate degree at Colorado State University.  While in school she held several different jobs including working in a veterinary pathology lab and working as an animal control officer.

After graduation, Dr. Thompson moved back to California and worked for many years as a veterinary assistant at a clinic in Fair Oaks.  In 2008, she was accepted into Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies, the only AVMA-accredited veterinary school outside the US.  She moved to the Caribbean with a few pairs of flip flops, a dog and a cat, to follow her dream.  She was in the Caribbean from 2008-2011, after which she finished her 4th clinical year of veterinary school at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Thompson graduated in 2012 and has been practicing small animal and exotic medicine in Roseville, CA since then. Dr. Thompson loves preventative care,  feisty cat patients, and trying to make each veterinary visit as stress-free as possible.

Dr. Thompson and Dr. Omar Cabrera opened Blue Oaks Veterinary Clinic in 2017 and purchased Willow Rock Pet Hospital in Rocklin, CA from a retiring veterinarian in 2022.  Dr. Thompson lives in Roseville with her wife and five children.  She enjoys traveling and is an avid 49ers fan (bang bang).  Her family also includes three rescue dogs and two rescue cats.

Dr. Cabrera, DVM

Cabrera, from the Latin root Capra, means "keeper of goats" so it is no surprise that Dr. Cabrera pursued Veterinary medicine as his profession.  Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Cabrera earned a Bachelor's degree in Genetics from UC Davis in 2004 and graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2010.

Dr. Cabrera's professional interests include small animal medicine and dentistry.

Dr. Cabrera, his wife, and 3 children share their home with Stella Luna , a Frenchy Chihuahua cross, and 2 chickens: Goldie and Rosie.  In his spare time Dr. Cabrera enjoys gardening, fishing, and playing tickle monster with his kids.

Dr. Dolan, DVM

Dr. Dolan grew up in the Bay Area and Northern California, and has had a passion for helping animals her entire life. She wanted to be a veterinarian since she was a little girl and always had a passion for medicine. In her early life she enjoyed horseback riding with her lovely Appaloosa, Polly and made every excuse to be around animals. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis in 2017 before taking a leap of faith to pursue her veterinary degree in Scotland. She graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2021 and is a proud Dick Vet.

Dr. Dolan’s professional interests include exotic medicine, preventative care, general surgery, and internal medicine.

Dr. Dolan lives with her two cats, Eavee and Zuko in Citrus Heights, CA. She loves spending quality time with her mother and sisters as well as having game nights with her friends. She enjoys a fun night on the town but also a beautiful hike and an exciting camping trip.

Dr. Garvin, DVM

Dr. Garvin's journey into the field of veterinary medicine began when he was in high school volunteering at a local animal shelter.  The summer after high school was when he started working at a veterinary hospital, first as a kennel assistant (and later as a veterinary technician).  Providing compassionate care to animals, as well as a love for science is what drew Dr. Garvin into the field.

In 2011, Dr. Garvin graduated with honors from California State University, Northridge (with a B.S. in biology, and a minor in chemistry).  For veterinary school, he graduated from University of California, Davis in 2015.  After completing a 1-year rotating internship in Santa Rosa, Dr. Garvin entered small animal general practice.  Small animal medicine and dermatology are areas of special interest.

For fun, Dr. Garvin enjoys training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.  He lives with his significant other (Hayley), their sweet dog (Charlie), and their bad boy kitty (Chester).

Lisa grew up raising, training, and breeding English Labrador Retrievers for show and hunting.  She currently has an Australian Shepherd, Skye, and a cat, (appropriately named) Spaz.

Lisa enjoys spending time with her husband, Kyle, and son's, Kaiden and Liam, hiking, reading, and relaxing at the lake.

Joey, Veterinary Assistant

With a lifelong passion for animals, Joey started their journey into Veterinary Medicine 10 years ago, graduating from Carrington College's Veterinary Technician program and starting their career in Emergency Medicine at Atlantic Street Pet Emergency Center. After a few years in Emergency they transitioned into Holistic Medicine, but ultimately they decided to follow their passion for exotic animal husbandry and medicine, and joined the Blue Oaks Team to further hone their skills to be utilized to help heal as many species as possible. When they aren't nursing at the clinic, they enjoy spending their free time with their loving family at home. Prior to meeting their partner Robert, Joey only had their husky mix, Kiba. But in the years following they have adopted many animals, and now have 5 dogs, 5 cats, 18 ducks, 12 chickens, 2 parakeets, 4 aquariums, a pig, a sulcata tortoise, and a guinea pig. There's rarely a moment Joey isn't surrounded by animals, and they wouldn't have it any other way.
